Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program

The Doulas for Aboriginal Families Grant Program (DAFGP) is offered by the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres, First Nations Health Authority, and the BC Ministry of Health. The goal of the program is to increase healthy birth outcomes for Indigenous families by removing the cost barrier to accessing doula services.

The grant program provides Indigenous families living in BC up to $1,200.00 (maximum) of coverage for full spectrum doula support with each pregnancy.

What to know about having a Valley Postpartum Doula

When should I hire a postpartum doula?

It’s best to secure your postpartum doula before your baby arrives—ideally in your second or third trimester. This allows you time to plan and ensures your preferred doula is available once your baby is born. Our doulas have limited availability to guarantee top-notch, personalized care for each family.

How does a Valley Postpartum Doula stand out?

Our doulas provide holistic, evidence-based support combined with an intuitive, heart-centered approach. We honor your unique postpartum experience and ensure you feel heard, nurtured, and well-prepared. Whether you need hands-on help with your baby, a listening ear, or just a moment to breathe, we’re here for you.

How do you know when we start?

We don’t quite. We will block our calendar prenatally to ensure that your family is #1 when your baby makes their grand entrance. You will have already predetermined days and times to have your doula support you in postpartum, and whether they arrive at 38 weeks or 42 weeks, we will be ready when baby is!

Are there any extra perks?

Yes! We love to bring comfort into your home, coming the first visit with a freshly prepared, home-cooked meal for you. You’ll also have access to our lending library, which includes specially curated resources on postpartum care, newborn care, and family wellness.

Why does limited space matter?

We cap our client intake to ensure that each family receives dedicated attention and unwavering support. By working with fewer families, we can be fully present for you, offering tailored guidance and care throughout your postpartum journey.

What is included in the lending library?

Our lending library is stocked with handpicked resources tailored to your needs, whether it's practical information on newborn care, breastfeeding, or self-care strategies for parents. We're always updating it to include the latest and most useful materials for your postpartum journey.

Postpartum support is not just about surviving the early weeks—it's about thriving as a family. Whether you need help getting rest, tips for caring for your baby, or simply someone to talk to, I'm here to ensure you feel confident, cared for, and supported in your parenting journey. We honour mothering the mother and being apart of that elusive village everyone talks about.
